Everton’s alleged bid for Kalidou Koulibaly remains the biggest on the table, and maybe the only one on the table.
Despite claims of offers from Chelsea and other clubs, Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport report on Thursday that it’s Everton bid to consider.
It’s stated the club have offered €40m for Koulibaly, which works out to be £37.5m at today’s exchange rates. It seems an awful lot to pay for the defender.
The 25 year old was excellent for Napoli last season, but £37.5m would make him one of the most expensive defenders in history, and that seems a little skewed.
The only way it would make sense is if Everton know they’ll be getting way over the odds for John Stones, and have therefore thrown caution to the wind.
However, a move anywhere may be out of the question, with Napoli trying to repair broken relations with the player, so it’s feasible he continues with them beyond the current transfer window.
