With Idrissa Gana Gueye finally joining Paris Saint Germain this week, Everton have moved quickly to find a replacement for him.
Gueye’s departure has left a gaping hole in Everton’s squad so filling it before the deadline is a priority and it seems that’s precisely what Marcel Brands has done.
Sky Germany report today that the Blues are close to an agreement with Mainz for midfielder Jean-Philippe Gbamin.
The Blues have been linked with the midfielder on several occasions this summer, with several sources naming him as one of their options to replace the departed Gueye.
Indeed, negotiations were reportedly already underway, and Sky report that they could even conclude today.
In fact, they say that all parties are ‘optimistic’ over an agreement and Everton will pay €30m including bonuses for the 23-year-old.
He’s closing in on an agreement with the Blues and will sign a five-year deal at Goodison Park, with only a few details left to clarify on that front as far as Sky are concerned.
The player’s camp are optimistic although Sky say there’s still a few details to finalise.
A medical could even be held on Thursday.
