Over the past week or so we’ve covered claims from Portugal stating João Virgínia is closing in on a move to Sporting.
The Lisbon club are looking for a new back-up goalkeeper, and have wanted a young option who can provide competition to Adan. With the door further closed to the first for Virgínia at Everton, the chance of a battle for matches is no doubt appealing.
Reports on Saturday said the stopper would have to wait until at least Thursday to travel to Portugal, since he’s recovering from Covid-19 and will need a negative test before he can take a flight.
Tuesday’s A Bola says the player is set to move on loan, for which there’ll be no fee payable to Everton. On top of that, it’s claimed the Toffees will continue to pay a percentage of João Virgínia’s wages.
There’s been talk of a purchase option which would be applicable next summer, and A Bola believe the figure could be just €3.5m, despite the goalkeeper having an Everton contract until June 2024.
