Fernando Llorente has made only four league starts for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, while he is yet to start for his side in the Champions League this season.
The 34-year-old has scored two goals in the European competition, the first one came against Borussia Dortmund in the knockout stages and the other was against Manchester City earlier this week.
His goal at the Etihad proved to be the difference between Pep Guardiola’s side and the north London club as the latter progressed to the semi-final of the Champions League.
Llorente’s starts in the league came when Harry Kane was sidelined with injury, but that hasn’t stopped him working hard to help his team, whenever they need his services.
Friday’s edition of Catalan newspaper Mundo Deportivo is in full praise of the Spaniard as they claim Llorente to be a ‘discreet person’ who has always put Spurs’ ‘interests ahead of his’.
The frontman had ‘several interesting proposals’ to leave Spurs in January, but Kane’s injury opened the door for him to play regular football.
Mundo says the job Llorente does may not be as visible as done by others and it looks like the European newspaper are unhappy with the lack of recognition for Llorente, despite his crucial role in the side.
His goal against City side helped Tottenham create history at the Etihad as Tottenham progressed to the Champions League semi-final, where they face Ajax.
With Kane suffering another injury, Llorente may have another important role to play and if he does manage to score another winner to help Spurs make it to the final, then he’ll certainly get the recognition he deserves.
