On October 18th, we relayed news from Italy that Arsenal are in ‘pole position’ to sign AS Roma’s Cengiz Under.
Four days ago, Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport explained that Manchester City have joined the Gunners and the two English clubs are keen to land him.
The Serie A club are looking to hand him a new deal so that they can insert a €50m plus release clause and earn big from his future sale.
Calciomercato now claims Bayern Munich, Barcelona and ‘especially Arsenal’ are all in the race for the 21-year-old as the English club ‘return’ for the attacking player.
The Italian report also mentions comments from the north London club’s new director of football, Raul Sanllehi, where he claimed that Unai Emery’s side will only enter the market in January if there are any serious injuries to the players at the Emirates.
This is why Calciomercato rules out any potential bid from the the Premier League club for Under in the mid-season transfer window, at least taking him at his word.
Whether Arsenal will make an approach for him in the summer is still to be seen, provided Roma manage to retain him until the end of the season.
