Manchester United are only likely to make a move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana this summer if Erik ten Hag leaves the club.

That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who say Ten Hag and his agency’s control over transfers at Manchester United have already blocked a move for the Everton midfielder in the past year.

Manchester United are expected to undergo a complete overhaul of their squad this summer after a disappointing campaign in which they have once again been far from the title race and ultimately missed out on Champions League football as well.

Several reports have indicated that new part owner INEOS, who are in charge of football matters at Old Trafford, want a complete overhaul of the playing squad and that pretty much everyone in the current group is up for sale.

Whether Ten Hag is a part of the rebuild that would follow that is also up for debate, with the pressure on him following a disappointing campaign.

The Dutchman has been heavily backed in the transfer window since his arrival and allowed to sign players he wanted, such as Antony, Lisandro Martinez and Andre Onana.

None are yet to really work out and it’s debatable whether the club will elect to back him in the same way moving forwards, even if he remains in charge.

Tavolieri now suggests a move for Everton star Onana is dependent on that fact, with Ten Hag’s agency’s influence having already blocked Manchester United from getting him.

“What has always prevented Manchester United from attracting Amadou Onana is the enormous mafia between the agent and the agency, in this case the management which represents Eric ten Hag,” he said.

“This is the big problem today. This is what led to all the sporting and managerial choice of Manchester United. I wonder how we didn’t start with that one the show today, what contributed to having this absolutely catastrophic season.

“It is the internal scrupulous and mafia problems which have completely spoiled the interests within the club. So today, why has a player like Amadou Onana not arrived at Manchester United, who have been interested in two transfer windows, it’s because of Erik ten Hag and his entourage. We can say it like that.

“Somewhere the choices of Amadou Onana will be oriented on which club will offer him the clearest project and where he sees that it could progress with a clear structure.

“If Erik ten Hag leaves, then perhaps there is a possibility of seeing Amadou Onana at Manchester United next summer.”
