As you might have heard, Paul Pogba will be missing the World Cup in November, unable to recover from injuries following his exit from Manchester United.
The player returned to Juventus on a free, running down his contract at Old Trafford, hoping to rekindle some of the old magic in the process ahead of the international competition.
The problem for Pogba over the past few years, however, has been injuries, as he missed a number of games for Manchester United last season, and this has come back to haunt him again in the current campaign.
Signing a contract worth €8m/year after tax with €2m in bonuses until 2026, Juventus put a lot of faith in the Frenchman, and yet they have been unable to play him.
That’s why Corriere dello Sport, looking at the situation, headline their article ‘€8m and zero minutes’, highlighting the big wages the player is on and his inability to stay fit, while calling his return a ‘flop’.
Add on top of that the ‘personal troubles and judicial affair’ with his brother, and it has been a bit of a nightmare for the midfielder since he left Manchester United.
Part of all this was his reluctance to have an operation on his knee, that could have cleared him in time for the World Cup, but he chose against it, and here we are now, with him hurting himself again very recently.
That means Juventus now won’t get to play him until 2023, while Manchester United will be looking on, perhaps grateful that they no longer have to deal with all of this.
