Tottenham Hotspur and Borussia Dortmund reportedly scouted Gelson Martins in Sporting’s derby against Benfica on Saturday.
The information is brought by website Notícias ao Minuto, who takes the subject very seriously, saying this could’ve been the player’s last Lisbon derby.
By writing that the winger has given the Benfica players a ‘big headache’, the report makes it clear he had a positive performance, even though the match ended 0-0.
But Spurs aren’t the only English side following the player, as their North London rivals Arsenal also get a mention in the story. Notícias ao Minuto doesn’t make it clear if the Gunners were at that game, but say they’ve been chasing Gelson as well.
Gelson’s price demanded by Sporting is said to be his release clause, which is €60m. According to Notícias ao Minuto, this doesn’t ‘scare’ Arsenal, Borussia Dortmund or Tottenham. The only interested club who would have trouble with this are Napoli.
Some other Portuguese outlets had insisted Tottenham would travel to the match to watch Bruno Fernandes, so there’s clearly some disagreement.
