Just a few days ago, going by claims from the Ecuadorian media, it wasn’t hard to believe that Moises Caicedo’s transfer to Manchester United was nearly done.
Several local journalists had been claiming the Red Devils had an agreement with Independiente Del Valle, and the January move seemed like a matter of time.
However, things had a big turnaround in the past 24 hours. It started with general manager Santiago Morales claiming there were no talks with Manchester United, and then saying his club were analysing other offers from Europe and MLS.
Now it was time for Caicedo to speak about interest from the Old Trafford side, even though he doesn’t seem very confident about moving to the Premier League giants right now.
Caicedo was interviewed by Futbol Sin Cassette, and despite sharing his wish to play for Manchester United, he claims this may not be the best time for the move.
“My dream is to get to Manchester United, but first I want to reach other teams in Europe to adapt and get to Manchester in a better way,” he told Futbol Sin Cassette.
There’s the distinct possibility, although it’s not mentioned, of the Premier League club signing Caicedo and then loaning him out elsewhere.
The youngster also talked about his tough childhood and his quick evolution in professional football, as at the age of 19, he’s already a starter for Ecuador.
“My mother used to make candles and flowers on All Souls’ Day and I sold them, I was very ashamed. I cried because I didn’t want to sell, I was always so shy.
“When the official list of the national team came out, I sent it to my family group and my mother and father cried with emotion.
“At the national team, Mendez, Franco, Arboleda approached me and told me not to change my style, to continue the same.”
