If the latest news from Italy is to be believed, then Kalvin Phillips is heading towards an exit from Manchester City in January.

It won’t be a permanent one, but Gazzetta dello Sport report that Juventus have received a ‘double yes’ from both the Premier League champions and the player himself for a loan.

This all happened this week, as Cristiano Giuntoli and Giovanni Manna were in London for various business, including a chat with CAA Stellar, who manage the Manchester City midfielder.

The trip ‘was fruitful’, as they duo received the ‘first yes’ from the agency regarding a move to Turin ‘for a semester’ before getting another from the club.

This is seen as an ‘excellent starting point’ to open a proper negotiation, with it believed to be a potentially rather straightforward one.

Phillips, down his end, said that he is ‘willing to leave England as early as January’, even if it were ‘just for a six month loan’.

He doesn’t want to lose his space in the England national team, and knows he has to play regularly to achieve that.

As for Manchester City, they are happy to see him go abroad rather than strengthen a Premier League team, such as Newcastle, knowing they will not end up facing in the Champions League either down the line.

The one problem would be the player’s salary, which is currently of €5m net per season, but that is a problem for a later date.

Right now, it’s said the Juventus directors returned to Turin ‘with a good dose of optimism’, even if they know more ‘evaluations’ will be needed between now and January before making an official move.
