Several reports coming out of Italy have AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo is a transfer target for Tottenham Hotspur in the summer window.

On July 14th, Corriere dello Sport reported Spurs offered Toby Alderweireld plus €25m for the midfielder, and offered the player a ‘golden contract’ for six years.

Two days ago, we carried a report from Gazzetta dello Sport, who explained Roma believe the former Southampton man may not been keen on joining them and are looking at other options.

Another Italian outlet, Calciomercato, now claims Zaniolo’s move to north London is unlikely after Tottenham ‘changed’ their plan.

It’s believed Mauricio Pochettino’s side are close to completing the signing of Giovani Lo Celso from Real Betis and his arrival would ‘close the door’ for Zaniolo.

That makes some sense, Tottenham signing both players would have been unlikely, however, targeting the pair to then choose as the window went on looks like a plan.
