Napoli will sit down with Bologna this week to discuss the possibility of signing their young midfielder Amadou Diawara. The 19-year-old has been linked with Serie A clubs this summer, but Aston Villa are also in the race to sign the youngster.
TMW have reported this morning that Napoli sporting director Cristiano Guintoli is to hold a meeting with Bologna with regards to Diawara. These discussions are expected to be held in midweek, and it’s said that Napoli are confident they can get a deal done for the defensive midfielder.
The Serie A side are keen to bring in two midfielders before the deadline after the cash windfall they received with the sale of Gonzalo Higuaín to Juventus. Napoli will face competition from fellow Italian sides AS Roma and Juventus, but also Aston Villa.
Last week we covered reports from it Italy that Aston Villa had tabled a bid of £14.5m to sign Diawara despite dropping down to the Championship. The young midfielder was in impressive form in his debut season in Serie A, and was one of Bologna’s stand players.
However, there are reports Diawara wants to remain in Italy at this stage of his career, which makes Napoli and Roma favourites to land him.
In all reality, Aston Villa making an offer for Diawara did seem rather ambitious.
