With Romelu Lukaku inching increasingly closer to the exit door at Manchester United, they’ll likely be on the hunt for a new striker this summer.
While they have Marcus Rashford and have rewarded him with a bumper new deal, it’s unlikely Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would want to head into the new season without Lukaku or a replacement.
That has seen them linked with Sevilla’s Wissam Ben Yedder, with several reports suggesting that the Frenchman is a target.
Indeed, the last from La Colina de Nervion stated that United ‘have everything agreed’ and that the forward’s next destination is, ‘with almost total security’, likely to be England.
So far there has been little progress on the potential move, and when quizzed about it, Sevilla Director of Football Monchi poured cold water on the rumours.
Mundo Deportivo report him as saying that Ben Yedder ‘is a Sevilla player’ and that “there has been no offer for him” at this point in time. In fact, the Frenchman will be joining up with his Sevilla teammates when they head to the USA for pre-season on July 13th.
However, the Sevilla chief did admit that they “will evaluate what may appear at the time” should an offer come in, although he refused to “speak about a hypothesis.”
For now, then, there is little movement on this potential move, which is probably down to the delay in Lukaku leaving Old Trafford.
With a €40m release clause in his deal, Ben Yedder is easily gettable for Manchester United and 60 goals in three seasons make that kind of price one worth paying.
However, until Lukaku is gone, it seems unlikely they’ll make their move for the Frenchman.
