IFK Göteborg sporting director Mats Gren has confirmed Pontus Dahlberg’s trip to hold talks with Watford.
Dahlberg has been linked with a move to the Premier League side in recent weeks, and the 18 year old now looks to be on the verge of arriving at Vicarage Road.
Gren has released a statement on IFK’s website saying Dahlberg is in talks with Watford: “At the moment, it’s all about visiting and getting acquainted with the club. If it then leads to a move we don’t know at the moment. Pontus has expressed a wish to go away for a couple of days, something we are okay with.”
Watford are one of the clubs in the race to sign Dahlberg, after competition from Napoli and RB Leipzig.
The player is highly rated in Sweden, and he’s already established himself as IFK’s No.1, despite his young age.
It’s likely Watford would have to break the transfer record for a Swedish goalkeeper if they sign him before next week’s deadline.
There have been suggestions in the Swedish media Dahlberg will be brought in to compete with Heurelho Gomes, rather than be his back up.
