Liverpool’s unbeaten run of 44 matches in the Premier League came to an end when Watford registered a 3-0 victory over the Reds at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

The Hornets’ win over the Champions League winners came at a cost as Gerard Deulofeu was stretchered off the pitch in the first half.

Speaking to Sky Sports on Sunday, Watford manager Nigel Pearson revealed the Spaniard suffered an ACL injury and will miss the rest of the season. Neither Pearson nor Sky Sports have provided an update on when the winger will be back in action.

Calciomercato claims sources close to the former Everton man have confirmed the ‘terrible diagnosis’ and he will be out of action for ‘at least six months’. According to the report, Deulofeu is expected to be back in September.

Given previous transfer rumours, and the sources Calciomercato used then, it’s likely to be Deulofeu’s agents sharing this information.

Watford’s win over Liverpool has seen them sit 17th in the table with 27 points, level on points with 18th placed Bournemouth.

Deulofeu’s injury setback will be a big blow for Pearson and Watford in their bid to avoid relegation this season.
