Yesterday, when Sky Sports reported that Bruno Martins Indi was very close to being permanently signed by Stoke City, the news had a big impact in Portugal.
The claims were covered by several newspapers today, all of them believing that the player would be moving very soon, especially with Sky saying he was due to have medicals at the English club.
According to the English outlet, the Dutchman will be moving on a €15m deal after already spending a season on loan with Stoke.
But Portuguese newspaper O Jogo was caught by surprise when seeing Martins Indi playing for Porto on Wednesday. He was part of the squad which faced Rio Ave in a preseason friendly, which the Dragons won 4-0.
O Jogo still believe in Sky Sports’ story of a Stoke move, they’ve been reporting the possibility themselves for a while, and make it clear it doesn’t mean the deal has collapsed, but point out that maybe things are not so close to happening.
Maybe more frustration for Mark Hughes, or Sky jumping the gun.
