It’s not everyday that Manchester City lose out on top talent, but it looks like their attempts to sign Cengiz Under from Istanbul Basaksehir are being thwarted by Roma.
Earlier on Wednesday, the club’s president explained it was an honour to have two big clubs after one of their players, and that a decision would be made very soon.
Reports from Il Messaggero on Wednesday seem to suggest Roma have won the battle, with claims of a medical being scheduled for Friday for the Turkish starlet after agreeing a fee of €13m (bonuses included).
Pep Guardiola’s side were said to be still battling for the 19-year-old, however Sport Witness understands all the transfer needs now is confirmation from both Roma and Basaksehir before being made official.
The decision to join the Serie A side ahead of the Citizens makes sense career wise at this stage, since, with all the attacking talent already present at the Etihad, there is little chance of him getting regular first-team football.
Under made 43 appearances for Basaksehir last season, scoring nine goals and picking up seven assists along the way.
