Lyon star Nabil Fekir has been linked with a move to Liverpool and earlier reports suggested the two clubs have already agreed a deal to bring the player to Anfield. Fekir denied the rumours and stressed he isn’t close to joining the Reds, but certainly left the idea of a transfer open.
The Ligue 1 outfit’s president Jean-Michel Aulas rubbished the rumours that he had scheduled a meeting with the leaders of the Merseyside club to discuss Fekir’s transfer. This was reported by French newspaper L’Equipe.
Today’s edition of L’Equipe claims, ‘despite the denials’, the two clubs have started discussions, at the beginning of this week. Liverpool are the first club to have opened negotiations with Lyon for the 24-year-old.
Fekir is attracted by the Premier League club’s project, but isn’t close to joining Jurgen Klopp’s side this summer. The newspaper also reports that Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich have recently shown their interest in the player.
Despite the ‘rapid opening of negotiations’ with Liverpool, Fekir’s future could be one of the transfer sagas of this summer, believe L’Equipe.
The leaders of Lyon remain hopeful that Fekir can have a good World Cup so that his price can be increased further, especially when he has more than one club interested in acquiring his services.
