Earlier today, Mundo Deportivo reported that Real Madrid are aware Manchester United are ‘most interested’ in Raphaël Varane and want to know the defender’s intentions first hand when he returns to training after his vacation.

Marca also details the Red Devils wanting to sign the 28-year-old, who has entered his final year of contract.

The defender, for his part, hasn’t said anything and is in no hurry to make a decision on his future, even if it’s ‘true that United want’ the centre-back and he ‘has an offer from the English club’.

If there’s no agreement between the two sides, the former Lens man has ‘no problem’ staying in Madrid for one more year and then accepting the Old Trafford club’s offer to join them on a free in 2022.

The France international has so far not closed the door to continue with Los Blancos, but he won’t renew if there’s no improved contract. In addition to money, the sporting side also needs to be taken into account.

Varane feels the glorious stage at Real Madrid has come to an end following high profile departures of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Zinedine Zidane [his great supporter].

The World Cup winner, for his part, will have to respond to the La Liga side’s offer when he returns to the club.

Real Madrid also have a decision to make because Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are unwilling to meet the €60m price tag.

The Spanish giants must decide whether to sell him for a lower price or let Varane leave as a free agent next year.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side don’t want Varane’s situation to carry on any longer, but he hasn’t shown any interest in ‘getting this matter settled’.

Time is on the player’s side and it remains to be seen what Real Madrid will decide in the coming weeks and months, if the centre-back decides against signing a new deal.
