Nottingham Forest defender Tobias Figueiredo gets a big story in the Portuguese press today, as he’s given a two-page interview to newspaper O Jogo.
Even though the headline is from the part of the interview where the newspaper kept asking about Sporting, Figueiredo had nice things to say about his move to England, and how things have been going well for him at the Championship side.
“The club were interested, manager Karanka himself. And I did not hesitate. It was a good choice for me”, said Figueiredo about the transfer to Forrest last January.
“Since I was little, I dreamed to play in the English league. It’s the league where everyone dreams to play. We are talking about a second league, but it is a very competitive second league. The manager was interested, it also counted for me to choose to go.”
Asked if he had problems adaptating to the Championship, the defender claims it has been fine for him.
“No. I think it’s more the style of my football, with a lot of competition. There is no comparison with the first league itself in Portugal. It’s more competitive.”
“There you will play against the last or against the leader is pretty much the same thing: it is always a difficult game.”
On the English grounds’ atmosphere, Figueiredo said: “Each game looks like a final. Since I’ve been there I still have not caught a stadium that wasn’t full. It’s amazing, it’s something… It’s a fantastic environment, an extra motivation.”
Last week, newspaper Record was the one that revealed that there are four starts left for Figueiredo to become a Nottingham Forest player permanently. He’s made seven starts for the club so far, and the contract clause is activated once he gets his eleventh.
