West Ham United’s new attempt to sign the Porto winger Yacine Brahimi makes it to the front page of newspaper O Jogo today.
According to their report, David Sullivan Jr, ‘shareholder and son of the club president’, has been at the Portuguese club to negotiate for the player.
Brahimi would be a priority signing for the club this transfer window, with the approval of Manuel Pellegrini, in a project for the club to fight for a place in European competitions.
O Jogo claims that David Sullivan Jr has placed an offer to both Porto and Brahimi on the table, trying to close a deal for the Algerian international at the first attempt.
Now the first problem is that Porto are demanding a lot.
They want the interested clubs to pay for Brahimi’s €60m release clause, even though the player’s contract expires next year. The main reason for that is because they only own 50% of the player’s rights. And West Ham don’t want to pay anything close to that amount.
Another thing that could stop the deal is Brahimi’s wish. The player does dream about a Premier League move, but O Jogo claims that after the great season he just had, he expects a transfer to a ‘club of bigger dimension’.
So apparently no deal has been found yet, and O Jogo doesn’t have a definitive take to say if the negotiations will continue or not.
