Clement Lenglet was a standout player for Sevilla last season, which has seen him emerge as a transfer target for Barcelona. The Frenchman has a release clause of €35m in his contract at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán.
Catalan newspaper Sport claims Barcelona will pay Lenglet’s buyout clause on July 1st, which has already been communicated to Sevilla. The La Liga winners and the Andalusian club, along with the player, made a “non-aggressive pact” last Wednesday.
The report claims there is a “total agreement” between Barcelona and Lenglet. The former Nancy man has already informed his “immediate surroundings” that he has agreed a five-year deal with the Spanish champions.
Ernesto Valverde has the services of Gerard Pique, Samuel Umtiti, Thomas Vermaelen and January signing Yerry Mina as the first choice centre-backs in the squad. The Colombian has struggled to impress, whilst injuries have reduced the former Arsenal defender’s playing time since he signed for the club.
Lenglet’s impending arrival at Barcelona will give the former Athletic Club Bilbao manager more options in the heart of the back four. The current Sevilla player is set to become the Blaugrana’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
