It seems Aston Villa sent a special scout for the La Liga clash between Rayo Vallecano and Villarreal a couple of weeks ago.
According to AS, club director Damiàn Vidagany was the one present at La Ceramica, even though the reason for his visit there is not completely clear.
The outlet points out that Vidagany has a ‘very close’ relationship with Villarreal, so he may have been home in Spain and ended up paying the club a visit.
Still, it’s pointed out that his presence there is ‘not usual’, so there may be a specific reason for him to be there, and there’s a suggestion about who Aston Villa could be interested in.
AS highlights that Villarreal midfielder Álex Baena is the one who has the ‘best market’ at the club and has recently been linked to Aston Villa.
Even though only a ‘high-calibre operation’ would take him away from the Yellow Submarine this summer, it’s said that’s something the Villans could afford.
It’s pointed out that the player has a good relationship with Aston Villa boss Unai Emery, and that’s an extra factor which could lead to his move to Villa Park.
Now with Vidagany personally scouting him, they should have a lot more certainty about attempting that signing.
