Batman for Belgium, Bruce Wayne for Belgium… that’s the Michy Batshuayi message HLN are pushing in their Tuesday edition.
Batshuayi has struggled at club level yet that’s not been the case with the national team, and he has confidence that regardless of his situation right now at Crystal Palace, when the international break comes he’ll be selected by the Red Devils.
HLN explain the striker feels at his best when with Belgium, and part of that is the ‘unconditional’ support he gets from Roberto Martinez. Regardless of what is happening at Chelsea, or his various loan clubs, Batshuayi is considered key by his national manager, and the most reliable back-up option to Romelu Lukaku.
This is different to Martinez’s ‘on-off relationship’ with Christian Benteke, also at Crystal Palace, and Liverpool’s Divock Origi.
So far this season, Batshuayi hasn’t managed to find the back of the net for Palace, yet he has added two assists in the Premier League.
HLN point out that in contrast he scores regularly for the national team, however, it’s worth noting that four of his seven Belgium goals since the start of 2019 came against Cyprus, San Marino and Kazakhstan.
The other three were a little more impressive, against Iceland and Ivory Coast, but largely he’s been finding the back of the net against lesser international sides.
