According to a claim in the Turkish media, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United are leading the way in the race to sign Besiktas forward Cenk Tosun.
The 26 year old has been linked with the two Premier League sides in the past ten days, after their previous attempts to sign the Turkey international in the last window.
Fotomac this weekend report Crystal Palace and Newcastle United look to be in pole position to sign Tosun, ahead of other interested clubs. These claims come after it was reported in the British press that Newcastle United sent a scout to Finland to watch the forward.
The previous week Crystal Palace joined Newcastle United in Istanbul to get a lowdown on the player, when Turkey took on Iceland.
Earlier this week we covered reports from Turkey that Crystal Palace are willing to pay £22.4m to sign Tosun in the next window, after they failed to land the player in the summer.
The Premier League side had a bid accepted by Besiktas, but the offer came too late in the window for the Turkish champions to bring in a replacement.
Newcastle United also tabled a bid in the region of £8m for the Turkey international this summer, but it was rejected by Besiktas. However, it seems Rafael Benítez is still keen on Tosun, and there’s a possibility they could go back in for him in January.
Besiktas could be prepared to sell for the right price in January after it emerged the Turkish champions need to raise funds to make Talisca’s move from Benfica permanent.
