Real Betis are eyeing up a move for Crystal Palace defender Mamadou Sakho on a free transfer next summer.
That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who say the Spanish side are desperate to improve their defence, which is the worst in La Liga at this moment in time.
A recent 2-0 defeat to Eibar means they have now conceded 23 goals in 11 games, the worst in the division by three goals and a tally that means they currently sit on minus 11 goal difference.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini is naturally keen to fix the issue but has already admitted that any transfers are unlikely to happen in January given the financial situation at the club, as they have neither the money nor the space in their salary cap.
Should that be the case case then Estadio Deportivo say there is an ‘interesting range’ of players who may be available on a free transfer by that point.
One of them is Sakho, who is in the final year of his contract with Crystal Palace and is yet to agree to an extension to his three-year stay at Selhurst Park.
It is also debatable whether Crystal Palace or Sakho are interested in renewing, with the Frenchman having started the campaign in Hodgson’s plans but slowly fallen out of them.
He’s spent five of the last six games sat on the bench, managing just five minutes in the 2-1 win over Fulham on October 24th.
That would suggest he’s not part of manager Roy Hodgson’s core plans, although that can always change, with Betis likely to be keeping a close eye on the situation in the coming months.
