Crystal Palace are interested in striker Rafael Santos Borré but may have to pay €30m if they are to get him from River Plate.
Santos Borré has been earning admiring glances from Europe after scoring 13 goals in 21 games this season.
Palace have long been named as interested suitors, with numerous reports over the last year linking them with a potential move.
They remain keen on signing him this summer as Roy Hodgson looks to add additional firepower to a team who have managed just 26 goals in the league this season, the second-lowest in the division.
However, the 24-year-old’s €30m release clause could prove prohibitive, with AS explaining that Crystal Palace may be wise to negotiate with Atlético Madrid instead.
The Spanish side sold Santos Borré to River Plate for £2.7m in 2017 but have had the option to bring him back to the club for €7m since August 2019.
Therefore, Palace could negotiate a deal with Diego Simeone’s side to activate that clause and then sell him on to Palace for a profit.
That would allow Crystal Palace to avoid the €30m release clause and presumably get their man for a far more agreeable price in a summer when money is likely to be tight.
