As football currently remains on hold for the time being, footballers are like everyone else, needing to stay at home and only going out if absolutely necessary.
Kiko Femenía is among those, waiting for the lockdown to be over and hoping to restart training with his teammates as soon as possible, even if he knows the current situation is for the best.
The Watford defender had a chat with Cadena Cope in Spain about the whole thing, where he discussed the potential restart of the 2019-20 season, which is currently a big question mark on everyone’s calendars.
For the time being, he’s training at home, like his teammates, trying to stay as fit as possible in case the FA and co. give the green light to finish the season, even if it’s in a month or so.
He said: “The idea is to return to play before the summer and be able to finish the competition. For now, health is all that matters. I’m not in favour of playing without a crowd because the magic of football is to play with people, with your fanbase and we’re fighting against relegation.
“All I know is that playing behind closed doors would hurt us, because we have nine finals left”.
At the time everything was put on hold, Watford sat 17th in the Premier League table, only above the relegation zone because of goal difference, as Bournemouth have the same amount of points but a GD of -18 compared to the Hornets’ -17.
Aston Villa in 19th do, however, have a game in hand that could see them leapfrog Kiko Femenía’s side were they to win it.
That’s why many feel it’s imperative to try and finish the campaign, regardless of when it happens, in order to try and avoid any unfair ending, and Kiko Femenía appears to be one of them.
