It’s no secret the Colombian media loves watching how their players are doing abroad, especially those who feature in the Premier League.
So there’ve been many stories on Everton’s 5-4 win over Tottenham Hotspur this week, with Yerry Mina and Dávinson Sánchez both playing for the 90 minutes.
The first stories were pretty glad that the Spurs defender managed to score two goals, despite his side’s loss, but things changed a little once they saw what’s being said in England.
Former Tottenham player Jamie O’Hara ended up making some heavy criticism towards Sánchez for some of the goals conceded in that match, and the Colombian version of Marca apparently can’t believe it.
The outlet brings a piece today with a headline which goes as ‘Crazy! They crucify Dávinson Sánchez after scoring two goals: “He was Tottenham’s worst player”‘
Marca uses many arguments to defend the Colombian player, claiming he couldn’t be responsible for all the five goals conceded, and saying he’s been under pressure lately.
“Far from receiving praise for the two goals he scored, what a former Tottenham player has done is crucify him for the five goals his team conceded, as if he had been the only one to blame for the defeat. A harsh criticism for a footballer who, in addition, is experiencing a very difficult season”, Marca writes.
“That Dávinson was not lucky in some defensive actions is unquestionable, but also that conceding five goals cannot be the fault of a single player, but rather of the team’s defensive work, which was not up to the task in that facet of the game, although yes in offensive work.”
“Furthermore, Dávinson is playing with the weight of enormous responsibility after Mourinho was virtually without him at the start of the season. Of course, after scoring two goals, trying to get rid of the elimination of Everton is sure to have surprised Dávinson himself, who is seeing him crucify whatever he does.”
