Since Antonio Conte took over at Tottenham, there have been a number of stories about him wanting to sign Alessandro Bastoni.
The reason for this is that both were together at Inter during the manager’s time there, and the young centre-back grew a lot under the Italian.
That, coupled with the fact Bastoni is very good at what he does, meant a reunion at Tottenham was desired, but the Serie A side stood firm, and the player didn’t really want to move either.
Still, a lot of it has just been rumours, but the 23-year-old has now confirmed the interest from Spurs in an interview with Corriere dello Sport on Friday.
Speaking to the newspapers about a variety of topics, Bastoni was then asked if it was true that Conte absolutely wanted him at Tottenham.
He replied: “There was some contact, but I’m happy I stayed at Inter.”
The defender was also asked the difference between Conte and the likes of Simone Inzaghi and Roberto Mancini, to which he replied: “With Conte, we entered the pitch knowing perfectly what we needed to do, because everything was studied in a maniacal manner.”
Bastoni has remained a key player for Inter under Simone Inzaghi, and has made 16 appearances in all competitions to date, picking up three assists in the process.
His contract there runs until the end of next year, meaning there could be an opening in the near future if he doesn’t renew, but that remains to be seen.
