For a few weeks the Portuguese media have been saying Benfica are close to signing Darwin Núnez from Almería, but the big competition makes his transfer quite complicated.
An update from newspaper O Jogo today claims there’s now a Premier League side in the race for the striker, and that’s Brighton & Hove Albion. The outlet says there’s a new attempt from the Seagulls, who offered €25m for the signing.
That’s pretty much the same thing that was reported by newspaper AS today, and covered by us early this morning.
The Spanish story said emissaries from Brighton have been in talks with Almería at the weekend, and could break a record by making him the most expensive player from Spain’s second division.
Portuguese newspaper Record is another one with an update on the striker’s situation, and they confirm that Benfica’s offer isn’t as good as Brighton’s for now.
They say the Eagles don’t want to offer over €20m for Dawin Núñez, but may have to raise their bid to €25m. That would mean they’re matching Brighton’s offer.
The Uruguayan star had 16 goals and three assists in 32 appearances for Almería this season.
