Antonio Rüdiger’s hope of finding his way back into Frank Lampard’s plans at Chelsea hasn’t worked out well so far this season as he has made only four appearances in all competitions.
Lampard has preferred Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma in the heart of his side’s defence, forcing the Germany international to spend more time on the bench.
Earlier this month, we carried a report from Mundo Deportivo, who explained Rüdiger has ‘already been offered’ to Barcelona.
The La Liga giants are having a crisis at the back and therefore, Ronald Koeman aims to sign a new centre-back next month.
According to the Daily Mail, Rüdiger has emerged as a target for the Spanish giants. It was also stated the central defender wants to push for a move away from Chelsea in January as he eyes a place in the national team for Euro 2020.
As per the report, it’s ‘complicated’ for Barcelona to bet on signing the Chelsea player. That’s because the club’s ‘delicate’ financial situation doesn’t allow them to make new additions.
The Catalan club can only make new signings if they manage to offload some of their own players. Koeman has admitted he will use centre-backs from the academy if Barcelona cannot bring in a new defender in the next window.
Even if funds are available to make signings, Manchester City’s Eric García remains a priority target for Barcelona. This would be make it more difficult for Rüdiger to end up at the Camp Nou in the winter market.
