Alexander Sørloth’s decision to go out on loan to Trabzonspor has paid off as the Crystal Palace striker has not only featured regularly, but has been one of the best players in Turkey.
The Norway international was the top scorer of the Süper Lig with 24 goals, and he also managed a goal and an assist in his side’s 2-0 win over Alanyaspor in the Turkish Cup final.
Sørloth finished the campaign with 33 goals and 11 assists in all competitions.
Norway assistant coach Per Joar Hansen has given an interview to VG, in which he suggested the 24-year-old is not the right fit for the Premier League side because of their style of play.
“It is easier to be a striker in a club like Trabzonspor that dominates matches and creates many chances than in a club like Crystal Palace, for example,” he said.
Per Joar Hansen has heaped praise on Sørloth, and also said he’s not surprised with the rumours linking the striker to top European clubs.
“It’s magical what he’s done. He should have a large part of the credit for Trabzonspor fighting for the league title [finished second, 4 points behind İstanbul Başakşehir]. He has had a fantastic season,” Hansen explained.
“It is not surprising that he is linked to bigger clubs. He is still young, and has shown a fantastic mentality throughout his career.
“He took a chance by going to Trabzonspor, but in Turkey it is a top club. What he has done this year is worthy of respect, and it shows that he still wants to play with the big boys.
“He has received a completely insane boost in terms of self-confidence. Going to a top league like in Germany or in Italy will naturally be a big step.”
