Douglas Luiz left Aston Villa in the summer and the expectation was that he would play regularly for Juventus.
The Brazilian is yet to start for Juve in the first three games though, as he came off the bench against AS Roma in their goalless draw in Turin last night.
That was also the case in the first two games and it is quite different from how things were at Villa, where he started regularly.
Corriere dello Sport’s director Ivan Zazzaroni has now questioned the signing in his column for the outlet, as relayed by CalcioNapoli24.
Zazzaroni, known for being outspoken, has suggested Juve spent over €50m on the Brazilian to help Monchi and Villa get past PSR regulations or to just sign Alisha Lehmann.
The suggestion might only be a wild conspiracy theory though, as Calciomercato have actually praised Douglas Luiz for his performance and they call for the ex-Villa man to become the heartbeat of the midfield soon.
Even Motta himself had words of praise for the Brazilian, revealing that Luiz played a game of a ‘high level’ after coming on against Roma. So it might just be a matter of time before the midfielder starts regularly.
