Aston Villa midfielder Carles Gil is in the Spanish headlines for two reasons today. Firstly because Deportivo La Coruña are said to be very close to signing him, and secondly because of Valencia’s special interest in this transfer.
As reported by Deporte Valenciano, the agreement between Villa and Deportivo is very close. The Championship side are demanding for €4m, while the La Coruña club are trying to get him for a bit less. Still, the deal is said to be ‘imminent’.
It’s also claimed that the Mestalla club have the right to get 10% of the fee. This clause was agreed when Gil moved from Valencia to Aston Villa back in 2015.
The whole story means that Villa will be selling Gil for less than they paid two years ago, if the figures are correct, and will still have to pay Valencia part of that fee.
With only 34 appearances for the club, Gil didn’t manage to live up to the high hopes many had for him when he arrived at Aston Villa from Valencia.
