Pages four and five of today’s edition of Sport carry a big article on Barcelona owning far too many central midfielders. Including those out on loan, Barca currently have eleven, mixed between the defending and attacking variety.
That is clearly ‘overbooking’ as Sport call it, so what they really don’t need to do is spend a lot of money on another one, despite how good he may be.
However, on page sixteen, they report Barcelona, among other clubs, ‘yearn’ to sign Kevin De Bruyne from Manchester City.
The other sides interested are Real Madrid, Juventus and Bayern Munich, with all of them said to be ‘very attentive’ to the player.
All of this has come from comments De Bruyne made at the weekend, in which he appeared to hint he could consider a Manchester City exit if the club’s Champions League ban is upheld.
Monday’s edition of HLN covered those comments, and made it clear they felt the words had been given more weight than they should have been. HLN should know, given it was they who the City player spoke to.
Manchester City aren’t thought to be worried, and De Bruyne wasn’t sending any threats.
Add that to Barcelona’s midfield ‘overbooking’ and their financial state, and there doesn’t appear to be anything in this one.
