On Thursday, we carried a report from AS, who stated Real Madrid are targeting Manchester City stars João Cancelo and Erling Haaland in 2023 and 2024 respectively.

It was also explained that Carlo Ancelotti appreciates the 28-year-old’s versatility as he can be used on both sides of the back four.

Los Blancos’ interest in the Manchester City defender is also discussed in today’s edition of Mundo Deportivo.

It’s claimed this is due to the former Everton manager’s need to have two recognised left-backs in the squad. The Italian currently has Ferland Mendy as the first-choice player in that position, with David Alaba providing him cover.

Ancelotti wants to use Alaba as a centre-back. Therefore, the Champions League winners will need to bring in a new left-back. This is where the Portugal international comes into the picture and the report states Real will ‘try to contact’ him next summer.

Cancelo’s deal at Manchester City expires in 2027 and he has a valuation of €65m. Real Madrid have a good relationship with the player’s agent, Jorge Mendes.

Therefore, ‘it would not be surprising’ for Pep Guardiola’s man and the La Liga winners to cross paths, if the latter have a firm desire to secure Cancelo’s services.
