Atletico Madrid will re-open talks with Celtic for Matt O’Riley if they lower their demands for the midfielder, while Tottenham’s Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg is a last option for them too.

That’s according to AS, who say both midfielders are on the list of options at the Wanda Metropolitano this summer.

The newspaper explains that Atletico are looking at several options in this window as they look to improve their squad and particularly complement what they currently have in midfield.

Talks have been opened with Chelsea for Connor Gallagher, but he is not the only name on the list and the club’s management are looking on the market.

Celtic star O’Riley is one of the names on the list and the club opened negotiations with the Hoops in the January transfer window but a deal couldn’t be done because of the asking price and Brendan Rodgers’ eagerness to keep him.

Celtic’s demand for €40m was considered too high but Atleti will knock on their door again this summer if the Scottish champions lower their demands. The likelihood of that happening seems low, though.

Meanwhile, Tottenham’s Hojbjerg is also on the list of options, with Atletico’s interest in him also a longstanding one.

He’s been linked for the best part of a year but a deal with Tottenham has never advanced and AS say that’s because he’s the ‘last option’ for the club at this moment in time.

The player is waiting for the call to come from those in charge at the Wanda Metropolitano, but it seems that won’t happen unless other options such as Gallagher and O’Riley prove impossible to get.
