Vitesse have been left to ‘wait in suspense’ to see what happens with Tottenham and Rennes in the Europa Conference League.
That’s according to De Gerlander, who say the lack of clarity on the situation is causing many at the club to be on the ‘verge of a nervous breakdown’.
For the uninitiated, Tottenham and Vitesse are yet to learn their fate in UEFA’s third-tier competition after Spurs final game against Rennes was postponed due to a COVID outbreak at the club.
It meant that while Rennes topped the group, Vitesse and Tottenham were left in limbo in second and third place, respectively.
Currently, the Dutch side sit in second with ten points, with Tottenham three points behind them in third.
If Spurs were to win their rearranged clash against Rennes, though, they would go through, where they would face Rapid Wien in the Europa Conference League play-off round.
That draw was made earlier this week, with both Tottenham and Vitesse essentially sharing a spot in the draw as their futures in the competition remain unsolved.
UEFA are yet to provide a ‘definitive answer’ on the issue, with the date for a disciplinary committee meeting still to be announced.
That’s causing growing panic for the Dutch side, with many on the verge of a ‘nervous breakdown’ over the lack of clarity.
They’re hoping that previous examples of clubs being punished with defeats for failing to fulfil their fixtures will be used here, with everyone at the club said to ‘yearn’ for a knockout phase clash.
Covid has created special circumstances, though, which UEFA will have to take into account when deliberating on this matter.
Thus it remains unsolved for the time being, something Vitesse and their fans are not very happy about.
