We didn’t see this one coming. After a long saga with Leicester City buying Islam Slimani from Sporting last summer, things could turn the other way around, with the Lisbon club now attempting to get him back.
As reported by Correio da Manhã today, Sporting are worried they could lose Bas Dost in this transfer window. The 37 goals scored by the Dutch striker this season have attracted interest from several sides, including clubs from China.
And Slimani is the good alternative. Despite the Algerian’s great record for Sporting, he couldn’t settle in well at Leicester City, and that’s why Sporting have some hope. It’s claimed that Sporting would be willing to offer €15m, even though he was sold to Leicester City for €30m last summer.
The Lions aren’t the only club who want him, and according to Correio da Manhã, West Brom and West Ham are both keen as well. Tony Pulis and Slaven Bilic both need to bring in strikers in the summer window, and interest in Slimani could make some sense.
However, Leicester would surely be loathe to lose so much money on Slimani so quickly. He hasn’t been a disaster of signing and another season is surely required before dismissing the chances of the transfer working out.
That said, if West Brom or West Ham offered Leicester City the chance to make all their €30m back, things may be different.
