Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier has ended up in the sights of OGC Nice, according to Media Foot.
Walter Benítez was the first-choice custodian for the Ligue 1 side last season. His deal with them expired on June 30th and he’s now joined PSV Eindhoven on a free transfer.
Marcin Bułka, who joined Nice on loan from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, was the back up to Benítez last term. The Pole’s stay has been made permanent, but Nice will still need to bring in a replacement for Benítez in the ongoing window.
This is where the Leeds keeper fits in as his performances for the Whites and his qualities are appreciated by Nice manager, Lucien Favre.
It’s claimed the French club are ‘studying his profile’, with Nice having a, likely mistaken, belief he could leave Leeds.
Meslier initially joined Leeds on loan from Lorient in 2019, before they bought the 22-year-old a year later.
With Nice looking for a quick reinforcement in the goalkeeping position, they are keeping tabs on Meslier.
Favre’s side may find it difficult to take him away from Elland Road especially considering he is the main keeper and likely to maintain that position.
