Napoli are keen on Sassuolo forward Jeremie Boga but first need to do a deal with Chelsea regarding their purchase option on the player.
Boga joined Sassuolo from Chelsea in 2018 in a £2.7m deal after failing to make a single first-team appearance at Stamford Bridge in his four years there.
He has proven to be a hit at the Italian side, with ten goals and five assists in 50 games in all competitions to date.
This year he has been in particularly good form, scoring seven goals and registering four assists in 22 league games and thus attracting interest around Europe.
Napoli are one of those who are keen, according to Sky Italia, but they will need to do a deal with Chelsea first before they can sign the 23-year-old.
Chelsea negotiated a repurchase clause of €10m in the initial deal that took Boga to Sassuolo and Napoli are trying to remove that so they will control the player’s future.
They are yet to start any negotiation in that respect but have already sent an ‘expression of interest’ in the player to Sassuolo, indicating they are keen.
Whether Chelsea will want to let Boga go, though, is debatable. His form will not have gone unnoticed by Frank Lampard’s side, and there have even been reports they may look to bring him back to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are in need of offensive reinforcements, and €10m is a reasonable price for a player who’s shown good form this season.
Even if they don’t want him, it would make more sense to activate the clause and then sell him on to make an easy profit while his stock is high.
