Darwin Núñez’s impressive debut season with Almería, which saw 16 goals and three assists in all competitions, has drawn interest from clubs across Europe.
Southampton are one of the sides in England credited with an interest in the 21-year-old.
Three days ago, Diario de Almería reported Brighton & Hove Albion have joined the Saints in the chase for the striker. It was also explained both clubs submitted bids for the Uruguay international.
Calciomercato.it now explains the Segunda División side have turned down offers from Southampton, Brighton, VfL Wolfsburg and Benfica, and all these clubs are ‘ready to return’ with ‘new proposals’.
There’s no mention what the likes of Southampton, Brighton or other clubs are ready to offer, after seeing their initial bids rejected.
Napoli are also interested in the frontman, and they are evaluating a ‘possible synergy’ with Verona to sign the player. The Naples club’s idea is to secure his services and then loan him out to the other Italian side.
Cristiano Giuntoli, Napoli’s sporting director, is of the belief the South American is valued at no more than €20m. Almería, for their part, have set a price of €25-30m for Núñez, who has already asked to leave the club this summer.
According to La Voz de Almería, Núñez’s agent Edagardo Lasalvia will arrive in Almería on Friday, likely to speed up the transfer proceedings.
If no deal is agreed in the next few days, the attacker will start preseason with his current club on September 1st.
