Mbwana Samatta moved to Aston Villa in the January transfer window, and it was a big career jump for the 27 year old.
The striker had previously been with Genk since 2016, and was keen to get a chance in the Premier League, having spoken about the prospect on previous occasions.
He’s scored a goal so far in the league, and also managed to find the back of the net in the EFL Cup final as Aston Villa lost to Manchester City.
Things could have been very different, with Galatasaray wanting Samatta before he moved to Birmingham. The race was won by Villa, but Fotospor now report the Turkish side have a ‘plan b’, which would involve making a loan approach for Samatta in the summer.
They can only do that if Aston Villa are relegated from the Premier League, with the Turkish belief being that Villa will look to release players if they end up back in the Championship.
In that circumstance, Galatasaray would look to get Samatta on loan for a season.
