Valencia are likely to ‘undersell’ rising star Javi Guerra to Newcastle United, even though they’ve insisted that they won’t.
That’s according to Levante EMV, who say Valencia’s owner’s Meriton have a history of underselling players and it’s unlikely that they’d change in regard to Guerra.
The newspaper covers the player today after a flying start to the season for him that has seen him earn plenty of attention and praise.
Indeed, he has been included in Spain’s pre-list for the international break, further recognition of the quick rise he’s enjoying at the start of the season.
Those rumours led Valencia’s sports director Miguel Angel Corona to insist to British media this week that the player is not for sale, but Levante EMF believe that was nothing more than show.
They state that it is the club owners, Meriton, who have ‘forced rumours’ as they ‘tend to undersell’ all their stars or even players who show glimpses of being stars in the future.
In other words, they’re well known for selling off whoever they can, and it seems unlikely that would change with Guerra, particularly if someone with money like Newcastle showed up seriously.
According to them ‘no normal club’ would consider selling a ‘pearl’ like Guerra but the belief is that Valencia are not a normal club, and their owners absolutely would.
Whether that encourages Newcastle to make a move remains to be seen but it seems they can ignore any comments from Corona, which are being seen as not even remotely serious back in Valencia.
