Brescia owner Marco Bonometti has told the Italian media he can’t think about Massimo Cellino’s takeover bid. There have been claims in the past few days the Leeds United co-owner is on the verge of purchasing a majority stake in the Serie B side.
Speaking to Brescia Oggi, Bonometti was asked about recent reports Cellino is about to purchase 60% shares in Brescia, once he’s sold his stake in Leeds United.
The Brescia chief said he’s only concentrating on the present and matters on the pitch. Bonometti believes their main focus is remaining in Serie B, and then they’ll see what happens.
“What matters is the present. There is a salvation to be achieved on the pitch,” said the Brescia owner.
In the coming weeks it’s expected Cellino will sell his reaming 50% shares in Leeds United to co-owner Andrea Radrizzani. This would allow Cellino to return to Italy after three years with Leeds United, but a deal to buy Brescia could still depend on them remaining in Serie B.
Brescia are hovering above the relegation zone and could still be dragged into the play-offs.
