‘The offer would be accepted’ – Club happy to sell player to Manchester United for what they offered last summer

As everyone knows by now, Manchester United had, and seemingly still have, an interest in Kalidou Koulibaly, currently playing at Napoli.

You will also be aware that Aurelio De Laurentiis, the Serie A club’s owner, has heavily hinted the Premier League club made a €105m offer for the defender last summer, which he smugly rejected.

Things, however, have changed since, as Koulibaly has struggled for both fitness and form this season, and there is a belief this upcoming summer could be the one when the Senegalese defender finally leaves the south of Italy for pastures anew.

Where remains to be seen, but a number of clubs, including Manchester United, have been reported as being interested.

There has been some debate about the player’s current valuation, but there has been a general consensus about one thing, which is that De Laurentiis has softened his stance.

In fact, Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday state Koulibaly’s future ‘is strongly under discussion’, mostly for ‘budget’ reasons.

They claim ‘it’s possible De Laurentiis puts him on the market because his sale would guarantee him a high revenue’.

This is followed by the reminder of the rejected €105m offer, which, if it were to land on his desk this time around, ‘he would not think twice: the offer would be accepted’.
