As most Manchester United fans who follow transfer news on our website know by now, at least three big Serie A clubs are interested in Matteo Darmian this January.
Roma were one of the first to be named, but they appear to have fallen back a bit in the pecking order, only to be replaced by Napoli and Juventus, who, according to Il Mattino on Friday, are in a bit of a ‘war’ to bring in the former Torino defender.
Currently underused by José Mourinho at Old Trafford, the 28-year-old has been said multiple times to be open to a return to his home country, with the Premier League experiment backfiring, and now he’s received an offer to do so.
Il Mattino state Napoli have already put forward a contract of €2m/year that doesn’t appear to match the Manchester United right-back’s demands, which currently stand at €2.8m/year.
Those figures will be after tax, as that’s the way wages are reported by the Italian football media.
Since his deal with the Red Devils doesn’t run out until 2019, this isn’t the most legal way of doing things, but we all know this has never stopped clubs from using intermediaries to sound out demands and so on.
As for Juventus’ side of things, there hasn’t been a lot of movement, with multiple outlets just reiterating he’s on their list to potentially replace a departing Stephan Lichsteiner/Alex Sandro in the near future.
