If you’ve been paying attention to what’s been going on in the Liverpool transfer rumour mill of late, you’ll know that, as well as Juventus wanting Mohamed Salah, Milan are after Divock Origi.
The forward’s contract with the Reds expires at the end of the season, and the Belgium international doesn’t appear to have any interest in renewing it, thus allowing him to leave Anfield on a free in the summer.
This is part of what Corriere dello Sport cover on Thursday, with the newspaper explaining the 26-year-old ‘has already warned’ Liverpool ‘that he will not renew his contract when it expires and wants to compete’ elsewhere to feature more often.
This is where the Serie A side come in, and they are ‘ready to seize the opportunity to strengthen the squad with a player of international experience who has also won the Champions League and several other prestigious trophies’.
The plan to do so is firmly in motion, and Corriere reveal the Italians are now ‘very close to Divock Origi’.
In fact, ‘the operation has been set up for days, with meetings staged at Casa Milan with the Belgian’s entourage, and an agreement has also been reached on the figures that Origi should earn in the coming seasons in Milan’.
What’s missing from all this are ‘some contractual details that still need to be filed’, meaning ‘it takes a few more days to reach the final agreement’.
Milan aren’t jumping for joy just yet, because they know that the Liverpool forward ‘has several Premier League clubs’ after him, but they are also aware he ‘would like to take the opportunity to play in Italy and compete in Serie A’.
As for the broad package that was already agreed ‘a few days ago’, Origi is expected to earn around €4m/year for four seasons, plus commissions to be paid by Milan’.
Either way, ‘new talks are expected in the next few hours to try and get the definitive white smoke’.
