Barcelona are making moves to stop Arsenal getting first dibs on Espanyol goalkeeper Joan García in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to Marca, who say the Catalan club have asked García’s agent not to make any moves without informing them.

Sporting director Deco wants to make moves in the goalkeeping department for next season and reinforce the position regardless of what happens with Marce Andre Ter-Stegen and Wojciech Szczęsny.

García is one of the names on their list and shares an agent with Dani Olmo, Juanma López. They even brought up the goalkeeper when signing the midfielder from RB Leipzig.

Matters did not go beyond that, but they remain interested and want to be informed if anything else happens, namely with Arsenal.

They tried to sign the goalkeeper in the summer and remain interested in closing a deal for him for next season as well. Deco is aware of that and wants to ensure Barcelona have the option to match or improve any offer received.

Arsenal are not the only competition for the player and Mikel Arteta is personally moving the Gunners to sign the 23-year-old this summer. Barcelona don’t intend to make that easy, though, and have already been in touch with Juanma López to try and get preferential treatment.
